Besides being a Computer Engineer, I am an avid search geek with a penchant for all things Search Engine Optimization. I am an SEO Consultant at Brainofast which I founded back in year 2003 primarily as a web development company.
I strongly believe that SEO is a “definite” science and not an abstract art as many people claim it to be. Interestingly enough, it it an art, or even magic, to those who don’t have a computer science or engineering degree (or a mindset for that matter). From an engineer’s perspective SEO is a very systematic process which when done diligently and in accordance with the Google’s Algorithm’s expectation will surely produce results in the form of rankings and traffic. The more you know how search engines work, the better equipped you are to take on the SEO challenge scientifically.
I am on a constant vigilance over the changes happening in search engine algorithm at Google. Many of them are apparently publicly declared by Google’s own search engineer Matt Cutts. I also closely watch what patents Google is filing. This empowers me with what’s going on inside. Patent filings and white papers from search engineers don’t necessarily provide a magic bullet, but they do provide the chance to look at information that comes directly from people working in search.
When it comes to SEO I always keep an eye on the big picture. This has become more so important as Web 3.0 is approaching the mainstream. Firms like Metaweb, Freebase are actively engaged in making Web 3.0 a reality. It helps me think about SEO 2.0 that will tackle the new challenges posed by Web 3.0. SEO 2.0 thinking is essential to making my SEO skills future-proof.
I write about internal technical aspects of search engines and its consequential effect on SEO in my blog SEO Internals. I am sure readers will find my insights and writings useful. Happy Reading!
